Beginning something new is always a bit crazy, especially when it’s only you in the beginning. I may not be necessarily alone in my motivation for this endeavor, but it’s just me to start. Perhaps it will grow.
But why am I building this? And why are you reading this web page right now? Both are great questions that I will attempt to answer.
Why are You Reading this Web Page?
Why indeed. This great nation was founded on the principals of liberty, freedom for all by right, and yet here we see another website devoted to the discussion and expression of free ideas. The great thing about America is that even now, more than 200 years after its inception, we still have cause and facility to discuss ideology. No one side has it all right. While I believe that there is a side with the tightest grip on the true reality of this country, you won’t agree with every one of my beliefs on the subject, nor should you.
If you and I agreed about everything, we wouldn’t need free speech, would we?
As for your reading of this site, I can only hope that you see flaws in the world in which we live, and that you want something better for you and yours. Beyond that, a lot of the answer depends on if you just found us, or have returned to us to read more. Again, my hope is that you have and will return again and again. It is also my hope that you will not only read the information and ideas expressed on this site, but that you will also contribute your own ideas.
Why am I building the Liberty Defense Coalition Website?
Now that’s a whopper! For starters, I feel that the overall Liberty movement is in trouble. From my point of view, those of my proud fellow Americans who do speak up at all only do so in trivial ways that are easily disregarded and ignored. Calling a Liberal a “libtard” in a Facebook comment just doesn’t get the job done (did it ever?).
For many of us, Liberal ideology is nothing short of infuriating. It’s easy to call them names, to tell them they’re idiots and move on, but what does that accomplish?
The average Liberal isn’t concerned with things with like right and wrong. They (clearly) weren’t applying logic to the situation before you began hurling insults at them, and being told of their logical shortcomings doesn’t magically make them rational. It just doesn’t work.
So, what does work? Money seems to be a good motivator, but it’s only a part of the battle. No matter how much politicians want you to focus on the money, such as for campaign fundraising, never forget to use your brain. Ask yourself, what’s the money for? It’s for face time, advertising and marketing, and for lobbying. Money is important if you want to get your message heard, but it’s merely the cheapest route to progress.
The thing that works the most wonders in American politics and society is influence.
Who or what will carry the largest following tomorrow, is the question anyone with even a modicum of power asks themselves each and every day. In order to retain their power, or better yet, to increase it, one must get ahead of the curve. There are always ways to entice people to spend their money, but the key is to entice them in the first place.
You may think this is crazy, but I’d argue that the folks at Apple have far more power than any politician ever could, because people are just throwing money at them.
Follow the money and there’s a good chance you’ll find a man/woman in need of direction.
Building this website is the first step of my attempt to provide two things:
- myself an outlet that exposes to me to like-minded individuals – which is to say individuals who understand what it means to be an individual – who share in my passion for this country and desire to keep the liberty we enjoy, and
- a group under which we the people may converge in the name of liberty and create new devices for its protection.
But, as I mentioned, it’s a bit crazy. Not the idea, because that’s as solid as the Declaration of Independence itself, but the notion that I can do anything. I’m no leader or great thinker, I’m just one man who sees warning signs of troubles ahead.
It’s not unlike the edge-Libertarian who goes to vote and just can’t bare to bring him/herself to vote for the Libertarian candidate. They may agree most strongly with that candidate and party, but the little voice inside telling them that one vote doesn’t count, doesn’t make the difference, is too convincing. But we forget perhaps the most fundamental aspect of leadership, and that is influence.
The more who vote Libertarian today, the more who will vote Libertarian tomorrow.
More than that, the more votes that go to the Libertarian party, the more the Democrats and Republicans must take notice of Libertarian ideals. The smartest politicians in history have always kept a finger on the pulse of the nation in order to identify trends and adjust. They adjusted more quickly than others and gave the people more of what they want than the others, and enjoyed greater success for their efforts.
But we have to tell them what we want and in the only way that matters, with our votes.
Imagine, it could be decades before a we get a Libertarian president, but by voting that way now, we can force the Democrats and Republicans to adopt more Libertarian policies.
That’s why I’m here, for whatever that’s worth.
